I have not received any bills and I'm 8 weeks post op today! My insurance is BC/BS.

It was approximately 2000 that included my half of the deductible. So it was total of 4 grand for me and my wife.

My max out of pocket was $3500 so that plus prescriptions and some misc. items. I would say about $4000 total.

$1,000.. The insurance company tried to get out of paying for my anesthesia. It took months to resolve it. Silly me thought when you are approved for an operation it includes the anesthetic.

Maybe it's my blasted reputation for being a tough guy..didn't think I needed it I guess.

Will all vary based on your type of plan. My maximum out-of-pocket for the year is $5,700. I met that for sure. All in this year I will probably be around $7,500.

Around $1200. That doesn't include co-insurance for pre-op visits with my PCP and dietician, the pre-op bloodwork, and sleep study. I'd say $1900 total with those things included. It was worth every_damn_penny!

The hospital bills came to over $56,000 before my insurance company made adjustments. They ended up paying just $17,000. Crazy, huh?

About $1600 so far out of pocket. I know I will have the hospitals 20% appearing any time now. My deductible was $1100 and I had to pay 20% to my surgeon before the surgery. Plus all of the copays and stuff... so right now, sitting at about $1600. But for a $20,000 surgery, not too shabby I must say.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
