Fever and a Hot Arm?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery around 9:30 yesterday morning. Today I have a low fever. Also, when I walk it feels like I'm having a hot flash in my right forearm. It even gets hot to the touch. Anyone else have this happen?

Call your surgeon, or hospital. Anything with a fever after surgery should be reported.

Don't want to alarm you but I had this happen once, but the fever/hot area for me meant that I had a pretty serious infection. I was hospitalized and needed intravenous vancomycin. Call your doctor ASAP.

Agree with call the doctor asap. Could even be a blood clot. Hope all gets better!

Could be symptoms of a phlebitis(blood infection) or a blood clot. Neither of these are a good thing to mess around with so as has already been stated seek medical attention. Good Luck.

I'm still in the hospital. I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen. They gave me a big dose of antibiotics before surgery, so I'm not sure how I could have an infection. I've been walking quite a bit and am still using my scds.

Happened to me, use ur respirex (the thing that u suck air out of to make the ball move to expand ur lungs) ur temp will go down. Also the arm thing Happened to me it got red and almost rashy. It went away after 12 hours or so didnt end up being anything. They said it was from meds or anesthesia... I'm 6 weeks post op now and had no problems with arms since then. Although deff show the nurses encase its something like a blood clot.

You're in the hospital, provide all your symptoms to your nurse or primary tech. They can consult with your surgeon office or oncall surgeon.

This is the best place you can be at right now. Disclose every discomfort you have any strange feeling. Better to be safe than sorry.

My doc and the nurses are not too concerned. They think the fever is just a reaction to the surgery. The hot arm - no one has a clue, but they don't think its anything to be worried about. Although they did say it might be from the meds I'm on. I'm feeling tons better today though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
