Looking for fellow bandsters

Recommended Posts

HI,

I was at BIDMC yesterday for my first appointment and I met a couple of people while I was waiting. I didn't get their names so hopefully they will read this. I met a woman who was in for her fill, she has lost 75 pounds and I think she said she had four kids. I also met a man yesterday who was in to see the surgeon to get his surgery date. He had black hair and glasses. He also went to the get together in Braintree. I was at the hospital with my husband and I have blonde hair. I would love to keep chatting with both of them! If you two are out there, let me know!

Thanks,

Sherri

Hi Sherri-

That guy with glasses would be me. My name is John, and I'd be happy to keep in touch with you, sorry I didn't formally introduce myself that day. Anyway, I'm on for February 21st, and on a semi-liquid diet till then, by choice. Keep in touch!

John

HI John,

You must be very excited about your surgery date on Feb 21st. I actually thought your surgery date would have been sooner than that. Are they booking out about 5 weeks? What is the reason for the semi-liquid diet?

Hi Sherri-

The optional liquid diet was offered to me because I was concerned about open surgery due to the size of my liver. Dr. Rehrig said that it was entirely up to me if I wanted to go on the 1200 calorie/day diet, but I really don't want a big, hernia-prone wound in my abdomen. So, if I can suffer for a month on the liquid diet, and shrink my liver substaintially, it will benefit me.

As far as booking 5 weeks out, I guess that's their lead time. I thought it was the 21st actually, but I got a letter saying it was pushed back to the 28th. Sigh. I'll keep you posted.

Hi John,

How is the liquid diet coming along? I'm sure it's torture!

I had my ultrasound today. The tech saw gallstones which isn't great! I'm not very pleased with that. I have my last two appointments with the pysch and the nutritionist on Monday. After you got finished with all of your appointments, how long did it take for you to get an appointment with the surgeon??? I'm hoping it won't take very long! If I have to get my gallbladder removed it may push my lapband surgery back. I'm very anxious and just want to get into lapband land!!

Talk soon,

Sherri

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
