I am about 4 months out and my hair is still falling out. My hair was thin already and this is freaking me out a bit. I am on Biotin and eating as much healthy Protein as possible. Any other tips out there or some topical treatment that works? Thanks!

Please vets chime in on this one. It is my biggest fear going into this.

I know it is a side effect, so it's not a surprise. I am just hoping someone out there found a product that they found to stimulate the regrowth of hair besides Rogaine. Fingers crossed!

I'm not a vet, but I'm freaked out about it, too. There are some articles on the web that indicate that the amount of fat you are taking in can also affect hair loss. In other words, an extremely low fat diet can cause Hair loss. I'm going for low fat, but not extremely low fat (I eat nut butters, pistachios, etc. in moderation several times a week) in hopes that will help (plus they're tasty!)

In general, any sort of body stress (like surgery) or significant weight loss can cause hair to fall out, despite all the treatments to save your hair.

I'm 8 days post-op so I have no experience with this but I am going to following this poster's advice as closely as possible:

It's the surgery that causes it and you can't avoid it, although the amount people lose ranges from negligible to a fair amount. But good food and Vitamins mean that when your hair starts coming back in, it's strong and healthy.

Mine's been falling out for a couple of months now. Yes, I don't like it but there's no such thing as a free lunch - if my hair has to be sacrificed for the greater good, so be it :-) This may sound a bit odd, but I thank the hairs as they go down the plug every time I shampoo... Makes me feel a bit more positive rather than sad... You can laugh now ;-)

I have been using Toppick, which is a very fine keratin powder (order on line from the company). You can buy a puffer to put it in and then you puff it into the areas of hair you think look thin. Won't blow out or get affected by rain. It has made me feel normal again because if I can't see where my hair is a bit thinner, neither can anyone else.

As ever, this too will pass - and anyway, stressing will just make it worse so I just keep breathing and focusing on the bigger picture. Good luck all!

Mine didn't start falling out until about 6 weeks after my surgery, and it was just coming out in clumps. I pretty much cut off all my hair so it would look a bit fuller. I have been paying more attention to my Protein intake and taking my Biotin.

Thank you I will check out that product. I have NO regrets about my sleeve, love every minute of it, except this part. LOL

Ps if there was a way to avoid Hair loss after surgery there would be products on the market for it. There aren't any, just things to cover up the loss and help the hair as it regrows. Please be realistic about hair loss - it may not happen to you, it may be slight or it may be significant. But it isn't your fault whichever way it pans out, so don't beat yourself up...

Sleeved on 05/23; hair started falling out 2 weeks later and has not stopped. If it didn't have Toppick to use i would never leave the house.

I take 10,000 mcg of Biotin. My surgery was 2/2013 and my Hair loss calmed down in 08/2013. It gets better.

They sell Rogaine over the counter now, and it helped me thicken my hair back up after my last weight loss.

Remember....your body is in a state of shock and it starts losing what it does not feel like it needs. I take Biotin everyday and get my Protein in, including a teaspoon of almond butter, Peanut Butter or cashew butter everyday. Also, started using paraben free and sulfite free shampoos. I use inexpensive brand called "Organix". My Hair loss calmed down late July early August. Surgery was in February.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
