Nausea with Multi-vitamin

Recommended Posts

Hi! I was sleeved on 9/9/13 and have been instructed by MD to take a chewable Multivitamin daily. I am getting terrible nausea  out 10 minutes after I chew the vitamin-to the point that I am almost vomiting. I am curious as to what everyone else is taking or any recommendations. I have always had a sensative stomach to Vitamins but would like to find one that I can handle. Thanks!!!!

I was required to take two chewable Multivitamins and chewable Calcium a day. The first week they made me nauseous and felt like sandpaper going down. By the middle of the second week I was throwing them up within minutes of chewing them. I even tried crushing them and that didn't work either. So I switched to multivites gummies and haven't thrown up since.

i had this also and was unable to take them for weeks. my NUT said that with the shakes she wasnt in any hurry. That it was better in the evening after a meal--perhaps, i did not notice that. however after the third or fourth week I got Celebrate capsules and I tolerated them much better. by the fifth week i have no problem whatsoever.

good luck

Im taking Centrum Silver chewable (even though Im not "Silver") and they seem to be fine. After the bottle is over though - I will go back to gummies which I took before surgery.

Thanks everyone! My Protein Shake also has Vitamins so I may hold off on the chewable for a bit. The nausea is really setting me back in the evenings.

I used to have issues with some Vitamins, At my NUT's suggestion I took Flintstones Multi and started taking them before bed and it didn't' bother me as much.

The one and only time I have vomited post-op (5 months) was when I took my multivitamin on an empty stomach.

Yeah I loved my gummies but was told to not use them after surgery and the chewable ones make me sick no matter what. I have tried all kinds. Thinking about having to take them makes my stomach turn! Having a full stomach is helping the most. I still have a vague nausea for a bit after but without food they come right back up. Other than eating a meal then taking them I have no solution. I just went back to my gummies after a month figured it is better than not taking them at all.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
