first night home from hospital

Recommended Posts

Man...I'm sore. It was a little harder sleeping completely flat versus elevated in the hospital bed. Harder to get in and out of bed too. My wife had a fund raising event for work that she couldnt miss so im on my own today. Hopefully I will be able to get up and move around on my own.

Congrats on a successful surgery! I agree, every day gets a little better. I wound up sleeping in a recliner the first few nights to make it easier and a heating pad helped with the soreness a bit. Be well.

I just got up and did some walking. Dont want to try the stairs without my wife so I did the hallway back and forth for a while. Maybe when she gets home we'll head on down the street.

Last night was my first night home after surgery too! I slept in my bed, but slept sitting up because I just didn't think I could handle laying on my back and since I'm naturally a side sleeper, that couldn't happen!

Hope today is a good day for you!

Its day six post op now. Feeling much better. Still a little sore but now its mostly discomfort rather than pain. The gas pains are pretty much gone. sleeping is still difficult because I'm usually face down and I dont want to try that yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
