Food not tasting good

Recommended Posts

I feel that I cannot for many many months have food that tastes good or decent and it's driving me nuts. I'm 10 wks out lost 35 lbs down to 195.

My nutritionist and I met last wk and this is the newest diet plan:

3/4 cup plan oatmeal rolled oats and berries

snack : 1/2 banana, 1tbs sunflower seeds

Lunch: 1oz Protein (so chicken) and veggies to equal total of 3/4 cup

Snack: light soy + coffee

Dinner: same as lunch

Snack: shake + 1scoop unflavored Protein powder

So that equals 700 calories.

I am starting to wish I could go back to just shakes and puréed pork

I know having this surgery I'm not expecting to eat like pizza, but there has to be something in the middle.

If you have any suggestions that would be great,

Thanks!!

I feel like most food just didn't taste that good to me no matter what it was until I was at least 3 months out. Also, I got full so quickly and was uncomfortable, and I felt the same way as you--often wanted to go back to liquids. But with te, my taste buds improved and I was able to eat a little more/different food and enjoy it. The trick with that is as it gets easier and more enjoyable to eat, you have to be careful not to go overboard. It will get better--I remember feeling just like you did around that same time. I'm 4.5 months postoperative now, 59 down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
