Post op day 1 question

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I've been very encouraged by so many people's stories that have been posted. My sleeve surgery was yesterday, and I'm feeling pretty darn good. But...when I take a small swallow of Water or spoonful of Soup...I swear I "feel" it go down and hit my stomach (never had that sensation before), and then it feels like a instantly get a gas bubble or some type of instant digestion and ache.

Anyone else experience this?

I'm not sure if its exactly the same but it would feel like some one put a pile of bricks on my chest when I took a small sip of anything. I would have to wait for it to go away before I could take another sip. It has gotten a lot better. Now I only get that feeling if I drink too much at one time. I'm 3 weeks post op.

Your new sleeve is going to be extremely swollen right after surgery. What you are feeling is probably the Fluid running into what is currently a very tiny hole, and it's probably not all fitting quite yet. As the swelling goes down, you have a little more room for food and Fluid.< /p>

Eating and drinking everything feels different to me. Big time different. Probably will never feel quite the same. Remember, the stomach itself doesn't have pain receptors, so you won't necessarily "feel" the swelling as you might if you had that type of operation on your hand or something.

Congrats on your sleeve! What you're experiencing is totally normal, your fundus is gone so the liquid/food is in closer contact with the other side of your stomach that wouldn't normally be unless you've absolutely stuffed yourself.

I'm not sure that eating Soup is a good idea yet unless it's just broth. Follow jatherley's advice, and space your sips apart. I used to set a timer to go off ever five minutes and take a sip.

Don't stress out over it, you will adjust and feel semi-normal eventually. Hope this helps! :)

Every time I took a sip, I would get a bad gas pain in my stomach. I am now 2 weeks out and it has really subsided (unless I eat too fast). Hang in there, it will get better!!

Also, I found it extremely helpful to walk as often/possible as my doctor allowed. The walking seemed to speed up the healing process.

Thank you everyone! It is a very new sensation, I will remember to go small and slow with plenty of breaks. The walking has helped! It just so weird to take a small swallow of broth...and then feel this rumble! :-)

Yes, perfectly normal. Same thing happened to me to the letter.

Yep, it is very normal. It wont last forever though. (Although every once in a while my tummy (her name is Dolores) still talks to me. Just try to sip really slowly and eventually it will all be fine. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
