I geel like I can eat too much...opinions

Recommended Posts

I am going into 6 weeks out I can eat 3/4 cup homemade chili...I can eat 2.8 ounces of tuna with lite mayo along with 10 thin triscuts. I have been tracking and I'm averaging about 600 to 700 calories a day. I can even eat a whole pro choice Protein Bar with no problem. I haven't lost weight n a week as a matter fact I gained 3pounds. I get most my Water in at least 50 oz a day. I do good on Protein most days anywhere to 45 to 80 but that day was a 1000 calorie day..

I feel the same way and I am barely a month out. I actually now have cravings for "bad" food, which I definitely didn't have the first three weeks for sure. I know I should not be feeling like that this early on. I do have a strong sense that I am pms'n right now, and I ope that is the only reason why I am craving surgery foods and that my appetite is up, also I have gained two pounds this past week. If its not pms'n, im screwed! Lol

Probably pmsn Julie. .is what happened to me but I hear of folks not being able to eat 3oz at months out. I'm wondering if maybe my sleeve is too large. .lol

That does seem like a lot. I can't eat more than 1/3 cup of anything without the crackers and i don't think i'd be able to eat chilli anyway. Talk to your doctor he'll tell you if there is something to worry about. i've been tracking and i only get about 400-500 calories a day. but still 700 calories is not enough to gain weight on. it must be something else. maybe just retaining Water for some reason. i'm sure you;ll start losing again soon.

I have the same fear but a little bit of tune and chili and some triscuits, if you really look at the grand scheme of things, really Is not a lot. Compared to our first couple weeks it is, but we can't live off of liquids forever!

It doesn't sound like you are getting enough Protein or Water. I drink at least 64 oz of water a day and have at least 70 grams of protein.

My stomach held around the same as yours at six weeks. I had very little inflammation so my stomach was much closer to its "mature" size than many other sleevers. Also, I had a rather long stomach so it's just automatically going to be able to hold more since there's nothing they can do about the length.

As for you not losing/gaining.. that's very normal.. you may even have an entire month with no loss.. stalls happen. They suck but it's all part of the process.

I have to agree that even with 800 calories your no going to be gaining weight unless your eating empty calories which it doesn't sound like it. Have you tried cutting back on your sodium a bit? Maybe your retains Water? Try increasing your Fluid intake and reducing sodium and see if your weight starts moving again. :)

Hang in there we all have those moments of are we eating too much???

Which reminds me...are you tracking your food? A lot of people here are on myfitnesspal which is awesome. Sometimes I tend to nibble and I try to estimate my nibbles and you'll be surprised how much it adds up too

In the scheme of things you are really not eating that much. Remember what you used to eat before. Everyone’s journey is different, some cannot eat much, some can eat more than other, but remember we are all eating so much less than we used too. Plus stalls happen, just don’t get discourage and keep on with the program, the weight will come off soon enough!!

Thanks all its just a little freaky. I know when I eat dense meats like chicken breast from baked chicken. I can only take few bites. I'm eating all Protein except for a banana now n then. I want so much for this to work..lol I know everyone feels that way.

I remember Bob Greene talking about plateauing. He said right before a big weight loss sometimes the body holds on to water. In his next breath he said if that doesn't happen, then the exercise may need to be ramped up.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
