Flight paid, surgery booked... I'm so ready!

Recommended Posts

I've been considering a lap-band for several years but when I found out about the sleeve, I knew it was exactly what I'd been looking for. Tons of research and a heart-to-heart with my husband later and I'm booked for October 30th in Mexico :)

Ten years ago, I quit smoking--but I needed help to do it. I'm happily a decade out from my last cigarette, something I thought was the hardest thing I'd ever done. But I'm well aware this battle I have with my body is much more complex and difficult. And, yes. I need help with it. I'm actually excited at the thought of finally succeeding.

I have plans in place--I'm fortunate to have been working on my emotional and mental issues for about the same ten years, so I know most of my remaining issues come from habit and physiology--knowing I have the tools to deal with my ups and downs are a huge bonus (my life coach is very excited for me :) ).

For now, I'm cutting out specific foods each week on countdown until the last two before surgery when I plan to dive into the liquid pre-op diet. I feel like I'm starting a brand new life six weeks from now.

Thank you for reading :) I'm also looking forward to getting to know the community here and participating with those who know what I'm going through.

I pray that you have the very best outcome. I have my first appointment on September 30th to begin the long journey to better health. I too have been working for over ten years on the emotional issues which caused me to be in the condition I'm in. THANK GOD for this forum!!!!!!!! I have spent many hours reading posts from those who have the courage to undergo this. YES COURAGE. Those who have not walked in our shoes have no idea of what we endure on a daily basis.

Again, I wish you the very best and safe travels.

Taking that first step can be so hard. Like they say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. This is only the first step on the journey for the rest of your life being what you want it to be.

Thank you so much for your kindness--and Katcloudshepherd, you're absolutely right--it's so hard to talk to those who don't understand what we go through to reach such a decision. I'm happy to have found all of you who do XOXO

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
