Recommended Posts

I am feeling really fatigued...tired, sleepy, loopy, a bit disoriented- anyone felt this??

I'm trying to get all my Protein and liquids in though i don't meet my goals on a daily basis;

It's very hard to be at work and come home to cook, clean, play with my girls etc. i almost had a breakdown today :(

Any words of advice?

You can do it! It's hard. I'm almost 5 weeks. Weeks 3 and 4 have been hard. I've been week as well and it's hard w work but a lot of it is getting protien and Water in. I have found I do better on work days and scheduling my eating and drinking work best!

I would just advise you to get as much rest as possible. I had to go back to work two weeks after my op and wished I had more time!! I used to do my morning shift, come home and sleep for a couple of hours before going back out for the late shift. Between week 5 and 7 I started to feel a bit better. I also had a Vit B shot and I think that helped a lot.

Sorry you're feeling so bad. It's pretty common to have bouts of fatigue this early out. It's so hard to get your Protein and water/non-caffeinated liquids in at this point but I would try to set a goal each day to up them both just a little bit until you can reach it. And be realistic about it. If you're getting in 40oz of Water a day, try for an additional 5oz until you can reach at least 64oz and do the same for your protein. You also need to make sure you're taking your multi Vitamin. At this point there is no way you're getting enough Vitamins and minerals from your food intake that your body needs to function. I would also make sure you're taking your B-12 (whether it's a shot or sublingual - everyone is different). I'm a year out and if my B-12 gets low I feel awful! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Be kind to yourself. Your body is still recovering from major surgery and there will be differing levels of energy. Your diet, while perfectly normal as a post op, is another primary cause of low energy as it is lacking in calories and a balanced set of macronutrients. Again, this is by design until you are further out post op. Lack of carbohydrates will cause both a decline in brain activity and physical response, especially if you are in daily ketosis. Once you are able to eat solid food the increased calories and nutrients should help you with energy. Make sure you are drinking as much Water as possible (above 64 oz minimum if you can) and consuming at least 80 G Protein daily. Take breaks and relax if you need some recover time.

Even though you feel better from the surgery your body is still learning to adjust to your new intake. You will get better watch your Vitamins and follow the docs instructions you will get better.

I am also 4 weeks post op. Everything hurts. I’m always exhausted and sore. I can’t hardly swallow without pain. I know I’m not getting any where near the Protein I should. The shakes make me sick. I have tried fair life and carnation high protein… they all upset my stomach. I am probably low on Water too, maybe 36-42 Oz water. My Vitamins cause nausea. This whole thing is a mess. When do I feel normal again?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
