3 wks out and can't down any protein drinks but hungry all the time!

Recommended Posts

I had a horrible time after surgery. Surgery was Aug 26th....Horrible pain and since I can't keep down liquid medicine I just had to suck it up and deal with it. Could barely sip Water the first week so I lost 18 lbs. I'm dehydrated still, anything sweet like Protein drinks, yogurt, fruit make me soo sick. I've been the exact same weight for two weeks and I'll see the surgeon tomorrow for my first follow up.

Needless to say I never thought this is how it would be. Not happy with the sleeve and don't know why I did this to myself.

Can anybody else idenitfy with anything I've said. I'm sure if things pick up then my feelings will change but I'm hungry all the time and didn't think that was normal!

Help!

Are you allowed full liquids? I have some Protein Soups listed on my blog and they saved our sanity when we were sick of sweet Protein Shakes. Www.sleevers.wordpress.com

I'm doing pureed foods but they tend to hurt. I had regular food and felt fine!! My in laws and sliced potatoes, steak and broccoli....obviously I didn't have steak but I had 3 potatoe slices and about two or 3 spoonfuls of broccoli and felt great! But yogurt, baby food, fruit cup or Protein Drink makes me so ill. I do like broth but gets old after awhile and since I'm already dehydrated that's not good. So hope to get lots of help and guidence tomorrow. right now I'm sooo lost on what to do.

So sorry you have had a rough time. I was also sleeved on August 26th and I started feeling hungry this week, but luckily our new improved pouches can only take so much. I was nervous too when I started to feel this way earlier this week and I posted if this was normal. The amazing people from here provided great insight.

Remember our bodies have been on a roller coaster and feeling hungry at this point is very normal. Just make sure you follow the guidelines given to you by your doctor and nutritionist.

What you may be thinking is hunger could well be acid. Many people mistake it and find that omeprozole or other antacid helps tremendously. It gets better! Really! I think all of us went through some sort of period where we despaired and doubted ourselves. The first month is so hard. Have you tried sour things like buttermilk or unsweetened lowfat kiefer? Even plain nonfat milk will help you get Protein in. Also, you may be eating too fast and that is causing your discomfort. Soft foods are so easy to take in quickly. I still have a battle every meal to eat tiny bites slowly. Try using a baby spoon and time yourself. Your insides are still swollen and healing now. Good luck!

I'm 4 weeks out. My first couple weeks I had my crying fits && frustration. 'Why did I do this to myself? Was my sad song. But after some time adjusting mentally && physically. I could barely down fluids or eat but now I'm able. It will take time for your inflammation in your belly from the surgery to heal && you'll be able take in more. You'll be fine!! Just focus on your liquids, dehydration makes u even more sick. Take are of your self.

It sounds like you are developing lactose I tolerance. The signs are that both yogurt and Protein shakes are making you sick. I'd try lactaid pills right before the shakes and see if they help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
