Hello from Idaho!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I started attending seminars/classes for the LapBand procedure in August 2006. I went through four months of insurance red tape and was finally approved this week. (I think they were waiting for January to roll around, so I would have to pay a new deductible. :) ) My surgery is scheduled for February 1, 2007. Aaaack! Only two weeks away. :omg: I start the "liver shrinking diet" tomorrow. :rose:

I was so excited about this procedure. When I found out I was approved, I became hysterical. I am so afraid of bad side effects and failing. I am afraid of the adjustments it will make for myself and my family. I am ready to back out.

I am so addicted to food. :hungry: I am afraid I will find a way to cheat by sucking down milkshakes or something and that I will stay fat forever and will waste my money on this expensive procedure. I am afraid of being crabby and miserable because I love food and will miss it; although, I am crabby and miserable because I have food now :phanvan (told ya I was hysterical)!

I welcome any advice/support/experience (good or bad) as I prepare to walk this new road.

Thank you for this forum and being here!

Lucy

Hi Lucy! I'm in Utah so I guess we're kind of neighbors. :rose: First, congratulations on your approval! Second, your feelings of doubt are totally normal. It's scary when we are facing change and it's suddenly become a reality for you. There are ways to cheat your band and I still deal with head hunger vs. real hunger. But I must admit that I am SO glad I have the band...I would do it all over in a second. I find that I enjoy my food a lot more now that I can savor it instead of shoveling it in my mouth.

We are always here for support. Good luck!

Lucly, welcome to band land. Congrats on making this life changing decision. I think your head is in the right place regarding your concern about overeating. You can overeat with the band. You can eat around it. High fat foods, milkshakes, candy, you name it. Just go into this knowing you will have to give those foods up to be successful. I no longer want those foods. Occasionally I prefer a Jamba juice over a milkshake. They are great replacements. Mind you, they can be 400 calories though. Anyway, glad you posted. Good luck to you.

Lucy,

I am new to this and will be banded April 3rd. I share all of your concerns and am scared of failure too. I would love to know how the "liver shrinking diet" goes. I am scared that it will give me the "runs" and I am a teacher and can't always run. My doctor gives out Optifast...what are you gonna take? I would love to hear about that journey, hopefully you'll share.

I know your scared. Keep remembering why you started this process in the first place. Keep remembering YOUR WORTH IT! I look forward to hearing from you.

Pamela

Will be banded 4-3-07!!

Wow! Thank you for posting everyone. I really appreciate the responses.

Does anyone know if more people are satisfied with thier band decision (long term) than people who are dissatisfied. I have read some where else on the internet about some who have had disasters with it but most seem to be positive outcomes???

Kity, no Optifast, no nuttin' for me. She gave me three food groups: 9-11 servings of lean protein/day, 2 fruit servings a day, and all-you-can eat non-starchy veggies. (I am gonna die! LOL)

Thanks again all. I am so glad I found this nice little corner of the world. =)

Well my heart goes out to you. I would beg for Optifast, lol. Stay strong...You can do it! (Always wanted to be a cheerleader...lmao). Keep us posted, we are all behind you. How long until surgery? I just keep thinking about how GREAT I will look in next Christmas' pictures.

Pamela

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
