High blood pressure

Recommended Posts

Is anyone willing to share what extra steps your surgeon made you do as a result of having high blood pressure?

I was also told that its fairly common to find thick left ventricle walls along with the high bp in us larger folks.

Any thoughts or input for anyone would be appreciated!

I was told before the surgery that I have the same problem but is very mild. The give you the meds to keep you stable and they monitor closely your BP after surgery every two hours or so. I wouldn't be so worried about this. After surgery the BP is going down spectacularly .

I found out I had high blood pressure at my first consultation. She said I had hypertension, and every follow up, it was the same high number staring at me. I was not on medication for blood pressure but I was on hydrochlorothiazide for Water retention. She kept me on the medication and I am still on it, everyday, at one month post op.

I didn't have any extra steps but instead they watched it and I probably got 3 or 4 EKGs in the entire process (3 months - I was self pay) all of my EKG's were normal but if they come back abnormal it may cause the surgery to be post-poned. This may not be much of a help but I wanted to give my experience! Good luck!

That's what the dr said. She wasn't so concerned but I'm 38 with 2 small kids. Reality hit me and dr and I agreed...this surgery is closer to necessary now.

I'm so glad to hear that your bp is going down post op! I read that it happens but wanted to see if it really did to anyone here!

Thank you and I'm wishing you an uneventful recovery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
