Holy ITCHY incision sites Batman!

Recommended Posts

It's been twinging a little but today, my God these are so itchy and I cant touch them... I was not stapled shut, I have the liquid stitches so I can't touch them because of their covering and the itching is killing me.

How long does this last? 6 days post op.

We had surgery the same day, and mine aren't bothering me....sorry. I have Steri strips over mine though. Maybe if you wash them again with soap and Water they will quit itching?

Aww man, I totally know how you are feeling. You're almost there. Mine got better at about 7 days. It was weird, I couldn't touch the stiches part either, but I ended up with Water blisters above and below the incision sites. Those itched like crazy too until they popped. I don't know why I'm sharing this b/c it's pretty gross, but just wanted you to know that, if you get those little water blisters, the end is definitely near! Hang in there!

I figured you did, but I just thought if they were itchy it might give you some relief to clean them again...and you can rub a washcloth on them.

The itching is the feeling of your skin knitting back together. you are correct, it means healing! So they will stop itching when they stop itching. put an ice pack on them, that helps a bit.

Put an ice pack over the itchy areas, that will calm it down.

I had those too! Weird!! Once those popped it got better though. I figured maybe I was allergic to the spray glue thingie. Everything around the incision still itches a little though. I'm 7 days post op.

Water blisters? I have been following this forum for six weeks, and this is the first I have heard of water blisters. Also, with 12 other surgeries in my 61 years, I have never gotten water blisters around an incision site. Is this because a glue is used instead of staples? How long do they last?

It could be a reaction to the surgical glue. My surgeon said it's common. I alternated Benadryl cream, Lanacane cream & hydrocortisone cream as well as 100 mg of Benadryl at bedtime for 3-4 days before the itching & redness calmed down.

I did a lot of gentle massaging over my clothes. I did it to sooth the itching, but it actually helps soften the scar tissue. I am 4 mo. post op today and you cannot feel my large incision at all, totally smooth. Just a fun fact.

I had my gall bladder removed in '08 and 2 of my little incision scars STILL itch like the devil.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
