LilRed🔥Mama 101 Posted September 16, 2013 My surgeon called me in to review my EGD results and informed me I had irritation in both my stomach and esophagus and that her preliminary findings indicated Barret's but the pathology report showed that it is reflux and would require life long meds to great. Ok no big deal but then she advised me that worse case scenario, if I proceeded with the Sleeve and the condition worsened over time (at any time) they would have to revise my sleeve to a bypass! I am very nervous and def don't want a bypass. Just looking to see if anyone else has had this happen and how it has worked out for them. I am due to have surgery on 9/25 and am on the fence about this. Any input about your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
2Big2Skate 328 Posted November 15, 2013 I have moderate reflux and a hiatal hernia and a shiatskis ring they had to check out a couple times. I think barium constituted half of my pre-op diet! My doc indicated I may need to stay on the PPIs long term, but he didnt have any qualms about sleeving me. In the big scheme, what's so bad about a bypass? I mean comparing your future health options with and without surgery. If that's the simplest and best way to stave off a future full of weight related pathologies, due to your other conditions, it might be worth reconsidering. I would not want to have two surgeries either.
