Hi ladies. I just had my 1st consult this week AND I have to do a 6 mo doctors supervised diet.....ugh!!! If my insurance had been following me for the last 15 yrs they'd know this wasn't necessary.

I'm also 5'4" and about 235 lbs. I'd love to know what your preop reqs are? I'll post mine later :0)

For me i am blessed with insurance that does not make you have a waiting period!! Whew! My requirements are BMI of 40 or BMI of 35 with other health problems. I suffer from severe hypertension even with medications. I just have to have a nutrition consult and a psych consult and an EGD. I am scheduled for the 27th for the two consults and my doc said he would preform the EGD the next week. He said it all is good i can be scheduled for the end of OCT but i want to wait until after Halloween due to a pre planned trip. I am just scared i am going to have this procedure and lose like 10 pounds!! I know i am just being crazy but I am just so tired of living in this body!!

Hi, and welcome to the site. My sleeve (8/5) has become my tool to lose weight not the reason I lose weight. Meaning, I still have to make the good choices, if I choose poorly, the results will be poor. The plans set forth by your program and NUT will guide you in this journey and help you be successful. Not everyone loses at the same rate, but for the most part they all lose. You will be amazed by some of the stories on here, the tips, the questions and advice.

My pre-op required 10%......I weighed 249 day of surgery. I did lean and green- Medifast shakes 2 or 3 times a day and Protein and veggies for a meal.

Best of luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
