protein and water

Recommended Posts

I am having a probably with getting my Protein and Water. I can do about 45 protein and 32 oz water. If I do more water then I don't want to eat and I can only do 20 grams of shake protein. Rest from little food that I do get. I am 3 weeks and 4 days out. I hope I am not hurting myself.

Im still on my 3 week post op, but my good friend who is 2yrs in, gave me a product that might help you. Its a 1 oz jellow shot that is 15g of Protein and 1 serving of fruit in each cup. Its made by Protica. Its called Protein Twist in orange flavor. This might help with being only 1oz and 15g of protein. They have other flavors too. If you Google it, you can purchase online. Zero sugar and fat only 100 Calories.

Everyone heals at the own rate and how healed you are will effect how much you can get in. It is very important to get your fluids and Proteins in in order to get your body to effectively heal. You might want to try driving done warm or Hot Drinks as the warmth may reduce the internal swelling making it easier to get more in. Mostly don't let yourself get discouraged just keep getting as much as you can in and before you know it you'll be able to get the proper amounts. Good luck.

Have you checked with your doctor? When I met with the PA last week (my surgery isn't until tomorrow :) ) she mentioned doing all I could but to not stress if in the first few weeks I can't get the numbers. I know the key is to not get dehydrated and sent to the hospital for IV fluids.

Oh also, a quick note that I read about the various Protein shots out there - they are not whey Protein. I don't really understand whey vs. other protein, but most of the shots seem to be made from collagen protein, not whey. I tried the Sunkist ones - sorry to say they tasted terrible (and are made from collagen), so it's great if the Protica ones aren't as bad, but I suggest checking with your doctor if it's ok to have protein that's not a medical-grade whey.

The product that they are talking about is a little different then the cheap Protein Shots that are found all over the place anymore, these are using Actinase Protein Complex which is a hydrolyzed combination of whey isolate, casseine isolate, and collagen isolate. The information I have seen on actniase looks pretty good, but if anyone knows anything more about please share. Here are some links of what I have found.

I may have to try some of this just to see what it is like.

I have used the proti a, Protein Shots since being on my pre surgery diet. They are thicker than Jello but taste pretty good. They are a great source to get you Protein in. Good luck..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
