Blondi418 6 Posted September 15, 2013 I love cooking for my family. Trying new recipies, fixing old favorites, I love it all. So my question, Will I still enjoy cooking after I have Sleeve?
rswa3319 69 Posted September 15, 2013 I think you will... I do. There was a small period where I was the grinch about it lol but I got over that. I love it again. Maybe it was just bad because I had my surgery less than two weeks before Christmas.
cherbear33 288 Posted September 15, 2013 Yes you will. Maybe not right away, there is a small window where you may hate it but it won't last long. At least for me it didn't. I wish you the best as you begin your new journey!!!
FRED1977 186 Posted September 15, 2013 Cooking yes, eating no because you are basically eating to survive.. Your portions are very small and you might just enjoy the first couple of bites then become upset because you can't even eat an entire kids portion of food. Just my 2 cents
sanks51 214 Posted September 15, 2013 I love cooking!! I just choose one day a week and basically do all my meals for the week.. Freeze in lots and lots of little portions and hey presto 2 FRED1977 and JerseyGirl68 reacted to this
JP69 116 Posted September 15, 2013 Most everyone agrees the same on this, there is a short period where its not very enjoyable because if the liquid diet, then soft foods etc.. especially if like me i still had to cook for my family everday. but when yo u can start eating small amounts of your meals again you get back to enjoying it. 1 FRED1977 reacted to this
Sassygirl06 962 Posted September 15, 2013 I agree, at first it sucks, and I even envied them a little bit because they got to enjoy and I couldn't. But after a while I started liking it again. After about 8 months I enjoyed it even more because I could have some of my cooking as well. All of my family ended up losing weight with me, ( not that they were over weight to begin with) because I would make the receipts with healthier ingredients.....they never even noticed the difference, but my husband and son benefitted the most because both of their guts went away. They still don't know why...lol 1 Blondi418 reacted to this
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted September 15, 2013 Not for the first two months or so but after, yes. My BFF was a guy named Joe, Trader Joe, right after surgery because he did most of my cooking. Now that I can eat 2-3 ounces instead of 2-3 baby spoonfuls, I love finding new recipes we can all enjoy. 1 FRED1977 reacted to this
Richard Foor 655 Posted September 15, 2013 I agree with what appears to be the common consensus here that after the first couple months you will enjoy it again. I know that I personally enjoy cooking for my kids. Also I enjoy figuring out healthy versions of my favorite meals to cook for myself and the kids. Good Luck, enjoy the journey. SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted September 15, 2013 I still adore EVERYTHING about food... eating it, smelling it, cooking it, shopping for it... Oh Glorious FOOD! I watch food porn almost daily.. heck, on the plane ride home from my surgery, I watched food porn... the really seedy kind (diners drive thrus and dives)When I got back, I stayed with my sister to "recuperate" and I couldn't keep myself from doing all the cooking for her and her family.. even though I was on shakes only. The only thing that I struggle with is making bread. I can not eat wheat products (not related to the sleeve, I found out a few months prior to the sleeve that I had this problem) and it SUCKS to have the smell of fresh bread which I know I can NEVER eat. grrrrrr. I was fine when I couldn't eat the food and I knew it was just temporary until my tummy healed.. and I was fine when I'm just low carbing it and there are foods I CHOOSE not to eat... but the BREAD drives me nutty because it's something I CAN'T have at all. 2 Blondi418 and Blessedfun reacted to this

My best friend - bread was denied me about 3 years ago... I had a temper attack, cried and acted a complete fool. But my stomach won - no more regular bread (wheat, oats, bran & barley). Ohhh I hate food allergies!!! Gluten free Bisquick is my go to! I make mini-mini muffins to get my bread thing on when I have a craving that wont quit. Hope it helps! Blessings! Macy6 356 Posted September 15, 2013 I made dinner for my family days after surgery, it made me feel like I was getting back to the norm. I had no issues with it.
Blondi418 6 Posted September 16, 2013 Thanks everyone for the most part I feel a lot better about it..... However I did meet a woman today who is 3 years out from sleeve and she still cant eat so many things, she said she would rather weigh 115 pound less than eat a biscuit though
