All these before and after pics are awesome, but please, tell me, have you had OTHER health benefits? Is it true that all those bad things like diabetes, sleep apnea, acid reflux, and everything else goes away? Please post if your health has improved, not just your silhouette. Don't get me wrong, looking great is a perk, but I need more than happy pictures.

I was on high blood pressure meds. About two months after surgery I was able to come off.

I could not walk very far because of plantar fasciitis. Now? I don't even have it anymore!

As a matter of fact I'd forgotten about it totally until just now thinking about improvements!

:)

I went from 9 or 10 pills daily plus 1 shot of insulin pre-sleeve to 2 1/2 pills post sleeve.

Meds were for high bp, diabetes and who knows what else;)

Hope to be off the last couple sooner than later!

I had borderline hypertension, and my blood pressure is now in the normal range. Although I was not diabetic, my fasting blood sugar had been creeping up to the high 90's (over 100 is bad) and is now back in the 80's. My cholesterol which was normal at 175 before surgery was 142 at my last visit! In addition, I had been suffering for several years from chronic back and knee pain which is now almost completely gone. I also have more energy now than I have had in several years. Having this sleeve is one of the best decisions I have made.

3.5 years post op.. My blood pressure came down, hypo thyroid meds decreased.... Blood sugar lowered... Cholesterol lowered... I have a herniated disc in my neck that I had to have an epideral injection into ever 3 months but with the weight lose I only get one a year. Joint pain has greatly improved. I didn't have a lot of diagnosis medical problems but if I did nothin for another two years it would have been bad.. I'm 35 now.. And wish I would have done this sooner, just for the health benefits

Don't doubt the decision. It will be a hard year to 18 months with all the changes. Just realize your body will be changing a lot... Take the 15 to 18 month curve and lose as much as you can with the time you have... You have to get into your own head and make changes that you might like or hate but all for the better

For me? No... if anything my health is worse now. Before I was fat but damn healthy now?? Blood sugar levels are hard to keep level (I know because I use my mom's meter who has it because she's paranoid lol) my heartburn is worse now than it ever was before, I have aches and pains in all my joints and 2/3 of my hair fell out....

I'm 9 months out and I still feel like I'd rather if stayed fat and that if I knew everything they told me wasn't going to be true for me I would have ran for the hills. But then again I am pretty damn vain... so maybe I would have done it anyway. I'm one of those who had literally NEVER been a healthy weight from puberty on. Come to find out its hormone related abs had very little to do with what I ate. I've lost over 100lbs but that's because for the first 4 months I was at 200 calories a day MAX then 400 max and now I max out at 8-900. I've yet to come anywhere near 1000 a day.

Soooo yeah... not a health fix for me. I was healthy before and had no comorbidities now I'm 164 lbs and have more issues than I can count. Maybe my body is just freaking out biologically because technically 260-270 WAS the weight it was maintaining at 1500-1800 calories a day.

What exactly is hormone related abs?

My phone's auto correct really likes abs instead of and for some reason. My weight was hormone related not caloric intake related, that's all. Sorry I was posting late last night. Hehe

I'm 51 years old, had a heart attack at age 46 - at that time I weighed 213. Quit smoking and gained another 50 pounds. Found my self with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes and didn't think would live to see 60. Now post surgery, I'm off all diabetic meds, no more high blood pressure, was able to reduce the amounts of acid reflux med and cholesterol meds. I'm so much healthier, and feel so much better. I can even run for short spurts :D . Was the best decision for me, I know it has increased my quality of life and most likely longevity. Best wishes.

I am on half of the blood pressure meds I was on before WLS. I have gone from 3 asthma meds to 1. I had sleep issues that I no longer have. My primary care doctor of 25 years is amazed at the good changes my weight loss has made in my health.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
