marynoel 12 Posted September 15, 2013 I live in NJ and have Independence Blue Cross PPO. I knew I was using an out of network surgeon. Never dreamt that my insurance would only cover $890 of the $10,000 bill. I had a 47 bmi, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and acid reflux. If I had gone into an emergency room with a coronary and needed a triple bypass they would have covered all of it. I'm really pissed. I never would have had this done had I known that they were paying so little.
SuzyB 182 Posted September 15, 2013 They didn't tell you how little they would pay? That has to be frustrating? I was told I had no coverage if I went out of network. We're there no local surgeons? What is done is done, just pay as you can.
marynoel 12 Posted September 15, 2013 No, they didn't say how little they would pay. I tried to have gastric bypass about 5 yrs ago and had to jump through alot of hoops at HUP. Then I decided it wasn't for me. A friend of mine went to Dr. Brolin in Princeton and he was wonderful. She spoke so highly of him and I really like and trust him. He was wonderful. He also didn't make me go through nearly the testing that HUP did. I think they were just soaking my insurance company for all they could. I did the pre -admission testing in 1 day with Dr. Brolin. I fulfilled all the requirements of my insurance company. The dr.s office said its the least they've ever been paid by an insurance co. In process of appealing. SuzyB 182 Posted September 15, 2013 Wow. My surgeon's office took all the info on my insurance and told me what my payment will be provided I stayed in network. I even called and confirmed, for myself, I would not have had the surgery without knowing that info. Medical care is expensive. Hopefully with the appeal they will cover some more of it. Good Luck
