My surgery is this Monday and I'm curious to know what I should bring? Of course I'm bringing clothes to go home in tooth brush tooth paste and phone charger. Surgical nurse said no deodorant day of surgery which threw me off ( i hate not wearing any) should I bring Shampoo and that kind of stuff. Do i get to shower the next day? Any suggestions

I have seen several people on this forum say how helpful a stuffed animal or small firm pillow was for support. My surgery is not for a few weeks yet, but I have had other surgeries and have taken a medium size Teddy Bear. It can be used for an armrest for your IV arm, or to support your belly if you lay on your side, or even just to have something comforting and familiar from home. And you can hug it when you are tired of being strong.

Bring an extension cord for your phone charger! You want to be able to reach your phone while it charges. :)

I wish I had! Mine just barely hit my bed, I taped my cord to it!

I was given a bear in the hospital. They called it a Bari-bear. It's also called a cough bear. It's a very very firm Teddy Bear and is shaped so you can hold it against your tummy to cough, move around, etc. At first I thought it was a little silly, but after surgery, I did not put it down. Took it home and had it on my tummy at all times. It really helped to hold something firm against my abdomen. A regular pillow is not even close to firm enough.

I used almost nothing I brought. Hospital will give you Kleenex, Shampoo, soap, etc. the only things I used were my phone, charger, and Chapstick.

Chap stick for lips if you get a little dehydrated... Comfy pjs maybe button up to help it be easier to change. I took Shampoo and condition -I could take a shower the next day. I also took my favorite pillow and a smaller pillow for support.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
