Guess what - the big fraidy cat just booked her flights

Recommended Posts

Yep, that's right, me the big worrier, the chicken has just booked her flights !! - no going back now !!

Also, finally got up the gumption to go see my PSP and tell him about my upcoming trip to Mexico for surgery and received an awesome response, he was totally on board, in fact he had also traveled to Mexico recently to research surgery for his own heart condition so he was extremely receptive.

Surprisingly, considering my abject terror at times, I felt great booking the flights and maybe I'm turning a corner here and getting more comfortable with this choice after all - hope so ...

Hello fellow scaredy cats!

I too am scared shitless. Am flying to France tomorrow with my friend Susan for my gastric sleeve operation.

My operation is on 18 September with Dr Bokobza.

My turning point was being told along with my sister that we were lovely girls but that we needed to lose weight. This was in June this year. Firstly by a 93 year old and the second by my 85 year old Aunt. Both within the space of a week. Don't ask me why but this had a big, big effect on me. Yes I've probably heard it many times previously, but this time it struck home. So I'm using part of my retiral money and going for it.

I live in Scotland. Far too dear in the UK for sleeve op so did my research and France was less than half the UK price. My other choice would have been Mexico but I wouldn't have had any aftercare. The hospital is in Le Havre.

Also I originally wanted a band however because I had had a hernia operation about four years ago, this made me unsuitable for the band.

Quite happy though now to go for the sleeve.

Would be Interesting to compare notes between France and Mexico . Best of luck to you - it will go wonderfully and I'll be thinking of you - please message me and keep me updated !!

Well arrived in France safe and sound yesterday. Now just waiting to go to the hospital for my blood tests, etc. dreadful night last night. Mainly due to my friend Susan's horrendous snoring!! I may well be taking her home in a body bag!!

Will keep you all posted.

£5350 which is about $7000. I consider it money well spent. In the Uk it would have cost me more than double. Could not get the op through our own health system because my doctor said I didn't have diabetes. Which is crazy because I have asthma and high blood pressure and have to lose 200 pounds. How much worse do you have to get?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
