I was sleeved on Tuesday (9/10) and so far the worst thing for me is fixing meals for my family. I haven't lost any of my hunger or cravings since surgery which makes things worse (I am taking Prilosec). I'm getting my fluids and Protein in but want so badly to eat with my family. My 10 year old understands but my 4 year old doesn't and is always offering me her food because I'm not eating. **Sigh** I know that in a month or two I'll be able to seem more normal but dang why does it have to be so hard right now.

(Hugs) I am right there with you sister. Sleeved 9/9 and I stopped watching tv because of all the food commercials. It was giving me anxiety! We just have to power through this difficult part and when we are skinny and healthy...you'll look back and laugh. It takes a STRONG person to go through this. You got this.

That was really difficult for me too. I was a royal pain in the ass when I couldn't eat real food. I don't know how my family put up with me! It seems like forever while you are in the middle of it, but soon enough you will be able to eat again. :) stay strong!

you'll actually be OK in just a matter of weeks, once you hit pureed and soft foods you can eat a lot of what might be in a normal meal - mashed potatoes, tender meats, Beans (ran through the bullet), so hang in there. I was lucky - my husband stepped up for those weeks and made dinner so I didn't have to be around it... but either way, I promise: It gets better!

Been there done that! It gets better and you can move on and you will feel good about everything you are doing and empowered to do it. :)

It has got to be hard, it is a process and every day is closer to "normalcy" Can you have Soups yet? Still a meal, not as much fun, but a meal nonetheless.

You can do this, stay strong, vent when you need to.

Congratulations on your surgery!! Best of luck to you.

For me if I make the meal I feel more at ease. If someone else makes it I feel the food and smell of food takes over me a d makes me want it. Versus when I take over and cook food has no control over me. Also I think we can smell the aroma of food when its prepared by someone else versus when wer standing right in it I dont smell it as much.

Thanks everyone. I know that this is all worth it in the end it's just a struggle right now. I see the doctor on Monday for my 1 week appointment and I should be cleared to start pureed food then and I can't wait. I bought foods before surgery that my husband could easily fix but so far he's only stepped up to that plate once and even then I had to walk him through it all. How hard is it to make frozen pizzas and chicken nuggets?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
