Good to know. I think that seems logical that they wouldn't need to NG tube you or give you anesthetic.

Its not just for paramedics its for any medical professional . Once you get into the ER they will need to know that as well. I can guarantee you the LAST thing my husband is going to be thinking about if im in this situation is telling them "WAIT she's got a lapband dont mess it is " So anyone dealing with you in this situation needs to know it not just first responders.

paramedics usually don't check the ankles. But they also don't do NG tubing. I have a severe mushroom allergy and some anestetics (sp?) have the same fungus in them so I have been wearing that on an id for years. I was told the same thing, paramedics will not see an ankle id, but they also don't do anestetic. ~Mandy

Is the fungus your allergic to in any pain meds ?? or just things in anesthesia ?

Did you ever have to have any anesthesia or you found out from mushrooms first you were allergic ??

Just curious ?

Yeah, that is what I figured that my husband wouldn't know what to tell them. That is why I got one.

If someone asks my husband what surgery i had he said " oh she got this thing around her stomach " LMAO

I needed the Medical ID LOL

I discovered the mushroom allergy first. It's really bad, I go into respritory failure. I have had multiple surgeries without problems, I just make sure the facility is aware of my allergy. ~Mandy

OH that is good you found the allergy before a surgery . I did not know mushrooms(fungus) were in anesthesia . I think there was just something similar to this on Greys Anatomy the other night, the guy was allergic to anesthesia, so they couldnt give him heart surgery .
Thanks for the info ..
Mindy

PS Im really sorry you have the allergy so bad though .

Here is another idea put your lapband doctor under ICE on your cell phone and they can call him to get all the information for the band.

I just got my medic alert from Lauren's Hope. It was expensive and I ordered it too big but it is nice and I feel better. I only put "No blind NG tube". Now I wish I had put No NSAID as well.

If you are going to be swallowing NSAIDS you will have to be awake. If that's the case then you can tell them about the issues. If NSAIDS are given in an IV they will not hurt the band. ~Mandy

Mandy, had posted on another thread about my ER visit this week. Long story short...pneumonia.

Doc gave me NSAIDS thru the iv and said it's not contraindicated. He's familiar w/ the gastric band and said NSAIDS even orally a time or two won't harm anything. It's long term use (even in unbanded patients) that can cause damage.

I had major surgery in July and my band doc ok's NSAIDS throuh my IV. He has also approved me to take them in liquid form. (liquid motrin is all I have found). I don't like to take them, but when my knee is the size of a cantelope I have to. ~Mandy

I take the childrens motrin (liquid). I also have NSAID perscription that my Band doc said I could resume taking at my 2week post op appt. (pill form).

I try not to because I am extremely tight - (too tight for some) and burns my throat and caused major reflux.

Have a good day all!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
