I bought mine on ebay and added my own chain to make a bracelet. It says "adjust. gastric band w/ abdominal port no blind NG" It also has my allergy information on it. It cost less than $25 and it makes me feel better, especially when traveling alone. ~Mandy

I don't have one, and really don't want one, but nonetheless have seriously considered getting one. I asked my surgeon about it a while back and at the time he didn't feel it was necessary, but a little peace of mind goes a long way.

Thanks all! I meant to post this question and forgot! I will be getting one, just for the peace of mind.

For those of you that posted what you have engraved on your Bracelet, did you use standard lapband text from a reliable source, or just go by what your research has told you regarding the lapband? I just want to make sure that I have the most accurate, up to date info on my bracelet.

Thanks!

I want to get a medical alert. Not to sound stupid but I had my lapband surgery in October and I have no idea what "adjust. gastric band w/ abdominal port no blind NG" means? What is no blind NG?

Also, I'm not sure what 'entubate with scope ONLY' means either. I want to make sure I get the correct wording on my alert.

Thanks

entubate is when they have to put in a tube to make you brethe, I was told that was fine. The blind NG is a naso gastric tube, that's how they pumy uoir stomach. If they try to force an NG tube it can rip open your stomach, that is what doing it blind is dangerous, they need to use one with a camera on it, so they can see the band. The adjust gastric band with abdominal port lets them know what you have inside of you, and it tells them what the lump on your side (the port)The band shows up in x-ray so you want doctors to know in an emergency what they are looking at. It also lets them know in emergency surgery to be careful cutting so they don't damage the tube, port or band. My surgeon says while not nessary an ID is a good idea. ~Mandy

Since they don't enter your stomach when you are intubated, there is no concern about this procedure for banded patients. However, it's a good idea not to have a naso-gastric tube placed with the band inflated. They can either deflate it or use fleuroscopy.

I have found in the hospital that many doctors and emergency room personnel have never even heard of the band. So any information you can have for them is good. I was in emergency and overnight once and everyone there was looking the band up on the internet to figure out what it was and what it looked like. So at least some of them have been educated. That's why I got my Bracelet. If I were unconscious and they needed to place an NG I want them to know that they need to be careful.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
