Stall at only 6 days post op...Sad :(

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done 9/4. Recovery is going great. Felt weak the first 4 days and just minor soreness at one incision. Feel great now. I have followed everything to the tee, pre op and post op. I am getting all of my Protein in and fluids and just started puree. My NUT said I may not be getting enough calories and to drop one Protein Shake and get the protein from foods now that I'm on puree. I started doing that yesterday. I have lost 6 lbs. since surgery (plus 9 lbs. pre op), and now have been at the same weight for 4 days. I also have been walking. I have read so much about stalls, but mostly around week 3. Why am I having one at 6 days? I worry I'll have another one at 3 weeks. Getting discouraged, but I keep trying to tell myself it will come off, but still frustrating:( I am very grateful for the great recovery though:)

You are not far out enough to be complaining about a stall. If you're weighing everyday, stop it - you don't need to weigh more than once a week. Be patient, keep doing what they're telling you to do, and great things are coming your way! :D

Don't let it get you down. My weight loss went the same way. I would lose 3 or 4 lbs and then wouldn't lose anything else for 4 or 5 days. When I would start losing again it would be another 3 lbs or so. I had my surgery July 26th and have lost 37 lbs so far. I did hit a stall at 3 weeks that last for about 2 1/2 weeks but then I lost 7 lbs in one week when I broke the stall. I haven't lost anything this week but I'm not sweating it because I know that I'll probably lose another 3 or 4 lbs next week. It's kind of a rollercoaster ride but the important thing is that we are still losing regardless. So relax and know it's normal. We all just have to be a little patient. :)

Don is right. At 6 days I was just getting back to my surgery day weight. Gained tons with all the fluids. Why do you think you are stalled? A stall is when you don't move for several or more weeks and you have not a week out yet. I hope your expectations are realistic.

Good luck to you but please don't think you will wake up lighter each day.

Thank you :) I just figured 4 days was a stall. I am actually 9 days out. I guess I just thought there was supposed to be more weight loss the first 2 weeks, than possible a stall week 3. I guess I did think I would lose something each day at this point. My expectations, I believe , long term are very realistic. I just thought in the beginning it came off faster. So, I was worried.

It happened to me as well! VSG on 8/21, and down 17 lbs. I am a lap band revision and they say that can be slower. We are just used to diets that never worked, and it's scary thought that I'm the one it's not going to work for! That is why we have this forums so that we can speak up!!! And we always hear about the ones that lose mega pounds the first 6 months. Chin up and keep on keepin on..

I didnt weigh in until my 2 week post-op vist.

I knew I had put on weight in the hospital from the gas they inflate you with and iv's.

Then after that I only got on the scale once a week.

It might be hard for you but give it a try :)

Good luck with your journey.

Maybe try weighing in weekly. The scale can become your worst enemy... It was for me. Life has become so much easier after I backed away from it. Things like Water retention and your period play a huge role with the scale, so don't stress about it so much... Especially at day 6. Good luck!

I weigh in every day, knowing that's not a great idea, but I'm just a day further out than you (9/3) and was curious about loss in the first few weeks too. I hit THE SAME stall, but finally yesterday saw the scale move and have lost 4 lbs in the last 2 days getting me down to my first goal - 50 LBS since Feb at my first Dr. appt!! I expect some stalls and plateaus but not that early on so I can relate to your concern. I've had to tell myself that I'm not going to lose the weight, but it will take a year or MORE! Keep your head up and keep us updated on your progress :)

Thank you:) Well I am now 12 days out and still haven't lost any more weight, other than the 6 lbs the first 6 days. Still getting in all my Protein and Water and have increased my calories to 700-800 and still nothing. I really hope I start losing soon. I know I shouldn't weigh everyday, but I have a problem with it:) I'm really trying though:) I just think I can't possibly be the same again and step on the scale hoping it went down, but no :( On the flip side, I feel great :)

Stop weighing every day LOL you can do it! Pick a day to weigh and stick to it. :D

A friend of mine had her sleeve about 10 weeks ago. For a couple weeks she didn't lose any weight, but she was still losing inches. Maybe you should do your measurements once a week (if you aren't already). It can make a difference to see those inches coming off. :)

When I started phase 2 of the diet, I gained 5# and bounced around at that weight for 18 days before I started losing again. It's frustrating but just keep eating right and it will start coming off again.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
