I recently had my Gastric Sleeve Surgery on August 26, 2013 with Doctor Pete Rantis at Alexians Brothers Hospital. He did a FANTASTIC JOB!! What a Great Surgeon, I could not believe how fast my recovery was. I was walking 10,000 steps the day of surgery with minimal pain. My starting weight was 417 with a BMI of 58.2. I was diagnosed with a severe case of sleep apnea which has improved with the little weight loss to date, My current weight is 375 with a BMI of 52.3. I’m very excited with my choice so far.

I’m currently in the pureed phase about to start my soft foods. Any good recommendations for what soft foods to start on?

Hi! I had a little mac and cheese and also some egg salad on soft crackers. Also had tuna salad. For dinner, I would eat some fish and refried Beans with guacamole. Soft, but satisfying. Good luck and congratulations on your loss so far!

I also went thru the Center of Excellence but my surgeon is Dr. Paul Guske. Just so happens that after my sleeve Dr. Guske had to perform a hernia repair and emergency appendectomy on me so he and I are tight lol. Anyway, great organization. Love the Kane Center!

As far as pureed foods, I loved puree'ing turkey meatballs with some ricotta or having refried Beans with sour cream or any cream of Soup strained. I wasnt on purees for very long since I had advanced rather quickly but everyone is different.

Good luck and congrats on your sleeve!

I agree BunnyK...The Kane Center Rocks!!! Dr. Guske, is very nice. He checked up on my the morning after my surgery. Ouch, that had to be rough, but luckily with the Kane Center Surgeons by your side you were in great hands!!

Awesome progress....Best of Luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
