Severe bile reflux post sleeve

Recommended Posts

My husband was sleeved on June 10. Since then he has been very ill. He has been hospitalized for severe dehydration a total of 12 times. He cannot eat any solid food without vomiting & has a hard time even getting Water down. He has constant nausea & a pain at the top of his stomach. He also constantly spits & has to carry around a cup everywhere he goes. His doctor hasn't been much help. He keeps telling him that it will improve but it doesn't. I feel strongly that he's experiencing bile reflux. I've read that revision surgery where the sleeve is converted to the roux-en-y bypass has been extremely effective. Anyone have any experience with this that they can share? Also I should add that he has lost 106 pounds since then.

That doesn't sound quite right. I would have him see another surgeon if possible. Bile has a different color and if that's the case it's probably an infection. Great weight loss but what difference does it make if he feels sick all the time. Good Luck!

Is he using an acid reducer? I'm guessing he is and if so I would strongly suggest a different doctor. The spitting sounds like the reaction after eating to much. My guess is he probably isn't eating to much and you need to look into why this is happening. His doctors lack of concern with all of the misery is disconcerting. He had done wonderful with his weight loss but he shouldn't be having all this trouble at this time and really does need to be looked at. I hope he feels better soon and you are a great wife for looking out for him. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
