Things I will NOT miss about being fat.

Recommended Posts

I remember a time where a girl I thought I was going to marry left me for a guy 100lbs lighter. I'm not going to miss that crap at all.

She left me for a skinny little guy...maybe one day I'll be the skinny guy in the story.

  • Avoiding Water parks with my daughter because I'm too fat
  • Not doing outdoorsy things because I need to stay "covered up"
  • Being offered unsolicited advice about how to lose weight
  • Being the "fat sister"
  • Feeling self conscious when I speak in front of groups because of my weight
  • Avoiding events because I can't find anything to wear that will diminish my weight

I don't miss:

Breaking into a case of lip sweat from walking briskly from one side of a building to another.

Breathing heavy at the top of the steps.

Being self conscious about what I put in my grocery cart.

Holding in all my stuff when I step on the scale so I can see the number.

Telling the dressing room lady that I need a different size even if it's bigger.

Having to roll over to my knees and push myself up off the floor.

Having to use the ladder to get out of the pool.

I think my number 1 is : Being the fattest person in the room. It is so wonderful not to be the fattest! Kind of sounds awful but I feel so much better that there are fatter people than me out there!!

I echo all of the above, and would add:

* going to any doctor's office and the nurse takes one look and says, "hang on, I'll have to get the large cuff for you."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
