Are there any PRE-Op or POST-Op Sleevers getting or have it done at Hopkins? Which surgeon did you use or are you working with and how was your experience?

Oh great! Dr. Steele is my doctor, I am having mine down town at Hopkins though because I have to have a cystic mass taken out at the same time :-( I'm exited though. My surgery is scheduled for 10/23. How has your experience been so far?

Sorry I'm late responding. I'm in the 3rd month of the 6 months process & so far it has really been a learning experience for me. How is the process going for you?

It's been going well..I love them at Hopkins because they are so vigilant about surgery..I just found out today that Dr. Steele requires no preop diet only 24 hours before should I reduce my intake and of of course nothing after midnight the night before. Just can't pig out..have to not gain so I'm thinking I may just to be safe chill out starting Next week and do low to no carbs..I don't want any problems on Surgery day.

Oh wow no pre op diet.. I'm glad to hear that. Does Dr. Steele speak at the information session? I am scheduled to attend a session just waiting for them to send me confirmation of date & time.

I think they only deal with their own patients but I'm not sure. All of us that age spoke to were her patients.

I wouldn't mind doing a PG degree with Johns Hopkins, but I guess that's not relevant. I shall shut up now! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
