Biotin for hair loss

Recommended Posts

Has anyone started taking Biotin yet for Hair loss? And how much is a worthwhile dose. I just bought 1000 MCG 333%. I got the under the tongue meltables, 1 a day. I am still pre op and don't have a date yet, but after reading alot, everyone is saying that they started losing their hair around 4-5 months out & it lasted for a good 3 to 4 months...don't know if Biotin will help, but if I start now?? Is there anything else that you could recommend?

Too funny, I did the same thing!! I am preop too, with no date yet but thought I would go ahead and start. I'm taking 5,000 twice a day!

Figured it might not help but couldn't hurt!

Good luck!

Yes I take it...... started 5 months pre-op. 1000 MCG which my NUT said was adequate. My niece, sister, and co-worker were sleeved and all took Biotin pre-op (are still taking it) and lost hair but not as much as it could have been. Their hair looks great and I would have not known they lost any hair.

A good multi Vitamin will help too.

Good luck!

I've been taking the Biotin about 1-1/2 mos now but haven't seen a change (not having srg til 11/13) but from what I am seeing I'm not taking near enough. I was just trying to make my hair a little thicker because it's so fine. I'm not really afraid of losing hair - already been there done that with breast ca so you never have a bad day - just wear temp tattoos on your scalp! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
