Wish me luck, I am asking for the time off this morning. I think I am more afraid they will say NO than I am of the surgery!

I am not asking for time off...I will (hoping soon) be calling in sick..I would rather use my sick time instead of my vacation time...and I don't want anyone & work knowing what I am doing...Good Luck..!!

I wish I could have called in sick, but some people already know. Besides they would need a doctors note for that long!

I wish you much luck! When are you going in???

I've requested 2 weeks and 2 days. My surgery if on a Thursday so I just added the 2 days. I figured I'd need the time to get used to eating that way more than the recovery but I guess I won't know till I get there.

Yes you are. 3 days? Are you kidding me? You are going to need more than three days. I had my surgery on a Wednesday and discharged on Friday, which is basically two days. You can't possibly heal in 3 days. No way Jose.

I took 4 weeks off and needed every bit of it. But then I had serious co-morbidities and needed to adjust my meds as I recovered. Don't rush it. This is major surgery and you don't want to suffer a setback.

I am not sure where everyone works but I thought the while point of sick leave is for times like these!!

I'm having surgery on a Monday (Mexico), returning to work the following Monday for half days during the week of Christmas. My office is pretty quiet during the week of Christmas usually.

I am asking and was approved for two weeks off! I don't think three days is long enough. What does your doc say?

It all depends on your job type and your body. I have a desk job and was off one week, then back to work 45 hrs/week. I was ready, but if I had a physically demanding job I would've needed more time. I could have done three days if it were plus the weekend.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
