So started pureed food yesterday. So far everything I try to eat sits like a lead weight in my chest.

Yeah. I'm having the same problem with the Protein Shakes. I can't get them down. I'm doing better with my Water but can't stand the taste of anything else.

I had the same problem and the nutritionist told me I was "eating too fast". She recommended smaller spoon (I now use the baby food spoon) and to "savor the flavor" of each bite before swallowing. It did help the food go down.

I'm 2 and a half weeks out. Just started pureed. Still mostly fluids atm. She told me I could go ahead and start adding some pureed in because I wasn't getting enough calories and the sweet stuff makes me ill. That's why I have a hard time with the Protein Shakes. I've tried several flavors and brands. I'm now starting to resort to mixing the unflavored into what ever I'm eating or drinking instead. I've tried pureeing a few easy things and they taste awful. I did manage a sugar free pudding cup yesterday with out being ill but it took forever to eat it. I'd take a small bite and get that brick wall then a few minutes later i'd take another and another brick wall. I need to go back to work next week. I need to be able to eat something before then.

Thin the pudding out with either fat free milk or soy milk or almond milk... It really helps it go down easier... Purée a half of a small banana some plain Protein Powder and milk with ice you can add some of the pudding in whichever flavor. I've done that too. I think the trick to mushy foods for me for the first week was to thin then out well first then gradually thicken them up till they were about apple sauce like consistency

Thank you so much. I made a smoothie with half a banana, half a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder, half of a pudding cup of vanilla pudding and 1/2 of soy milk and a few ice cubes. I've been able drink about 4 oz so far. This is far better than before.

I managed to get down 2/3 of 8oz. I've been nursing it for an hour and a half. I'm really tired of the taste at this point. But its an improvement. Thanks again

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
