I too am from MI. I live in Detroit now, but I was banded at St John's Grosse Pointe by Dr. Hawassli. I had written some negative things about the procedure and him here, but I had a very pleasant experience today (aside from not being able to be filled, gotta have a fluroscope) and there for the whole staff gets a gold star.

Anyhow, I was banded in September of 04. I've lost about 106 lbs, I'll have a more accurate number tomorrow when I go for my fill. Look forward to maybe meeting some people more my age who have had this surgery. I'm 23.

JR!!!!!!!! you look great, and 106 lbs down is fantastic!

It is often up to US to find out for ourselves what we can/should do.. that is why networking here on LBT is awesome.

Keep up the great work!

You look great JT. I have a young friend who lives in MI your age and he's also into music; techy stuff. Needs a band in the worst of ways. What made you jump in? Congrats on your decision and accomplishment.

Hello jr: First of all you look Great!!!!!! You were banded the day after my Birthday. That's cool! I am from Detroit originally. In fact I had my surgery at Henry Ford Hospital. Over on West Grand Blvd. I live in Saint Clair Shores. I was saying to a few people that we all need to meet each other, I'll bet we all have some stories to tell. I'm not in your age bracket though. I would say a lot older. I have 2 sons older thean you. But that's not the pointe,,,, we all have this in common,"the band" and its working.

That's what this is about. SOOO watcha think jr, how would you like to meet some people from Michigan that have had this procedure done?,

and possibly keep in touch. Shirley...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
