New Here I Need Help With Sleeve Info Insurance Submitted Today

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I'm new here. I have been on the ryn forum because I was set on having gastric bypass but I met with my surgeon today for the first time and found out I cannot have the ryn due to having Chrone's. I can have the sleeve or band. I knew I did not want the band so my only choice is the sleeve. I know very little about this procedure. I am hoping I can get some good information here. The doctor submitted to my insurance today and I should know by Friday if its approved. So I need to cram as much as possible because I don't want to schedule the surgery and then find out its not what I want. So please help with what ever you can. I am going to spend the next few days reading everything I can on here. Thanks in advance for your help.

I too have been on both forums, due to the fact that I have not met yet with my surgeon. I've got PCOS, hypothyroidism, and now today I found out I've also got a thick left ventricle in my heart. So, needless to say I get that the surgeon will be the one making the choice for me.

I started reading all I could here and have found great people and great information!

I will say that this forum seems to be a lot more active compared to the rny, but that's just from what I've seen since end of June.

You have a lot less complications, and the data at my hospital says that the weight loss is exactly the same as rny at 4 years post op.

I bought the book "weight loss surgery for dummies 2nd edition" and my dr praised that book, saying its what they recommend.

Good luck!

Also, I want to add that a LOT of what I learned came from going to YouTube and typing in VSG. Using just that you'll get a ton of people that have made videos along their journey from pre op to several years post op.

:-)

Happy to help!

One lady I got a lot out of on YouTube was gastric sleeve diaries. It's a gal out of Boston and she's pretty real without being dramatic. She gives a lot of good info in all of her videos.

Ask any questions. I was sleeved on June 12th and I feel wonderful and have since the day of the surgery. I am so happy with my decision. Feel free to message me or just ask away.

Where are you having the surgery?

This is just me personally: I chose the sleeve b/c I didn't like the idea of having my intestines messed with. I also didn't like the fact that the part of the intestine that was bypassed was the part that absorbs a lot of nutrients.

In the end, however, everybody has to make the best decision they can for themselves.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
