Please someone help me with puree stage

Recommended Posts

I am on the puree stage. I can NOT stomach pureed meat. This makes me so ill. I am so tired and weak, no energy I guess from lack of Protein. My Dr doesnt do Protein Shakes ( Kaiser ). I need ideas as to what to eat. My poor body needs something to make it feel better. I am 3 weeks post op on Wednesday. Im also at a stall I guess do to not eating well. I called my NUT and she recommended tofu which Ive never had and wouldnt know what to do with it. I hate cottage cheese and cant have Beans. Ive pureed fruit and had potato but its not making me feel good. Please someone give me some ideas.

Did your doctor tell you specifically not to do Protein Shakes because of a medical condition or does he/she just not believe in them in general??? I think long term we need to try to get off Protein shakes, but at three weeks out (which is where I am now too), they are a lifesaver. There is no way I would get my full protein in without the protein shakes. However, I also am having eggs, cottage cheese, and tuna and chicken salad which I whip up in the food processor.

What do you put in your chicken salad?

What do you put in your chicken salad?

Just Mayonnaise and whatever spices I want.... and then I put two teaspoons of Pickle Juice to help puree it! Also, one time I put avocado in there too... I figured I used to like chicken breast sandwiches with avocado on them, so what's the difference? I think it came out good, but some people might not like it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
