This is absolutely horrible. Such horrid pain. And it don't stop til you've emptied all bodily fluids. You feel nauseous. Feel like your going to pass out, then when it's over you have to lay down because your completlely drained. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Sorry you went through that! What did you eat that caused it?

I can definitely relate. A week ago I was in an airport about to change planes. No food on the plane, so I look around to see what is avail - Blessed, I thought - there in big letters "Protein smoothie" (20 grams of protein) and began to nurse this drink, as I was very hungry. Within 5 minutes I felt what you describe and ran to the closest restroom. I was with my 13 yo daughter - I don't remember ever being so miserable (except flu). Just another reminder to ask about sugar content.

I think it was because I ate a bout 3 bites of a salad. Did not use low fat dressing because I knew I was only going to be able to eat a couple bites. But... Guess that was definetly the wrong thing to do.

They keep telling us at our center that you don't get dumping syndrome with the sleeve. I'm surprised to hear that you've having it and it's making me hesitant about my surgery next Monday.

There is a small percentage of sleeve patients that do get this. Irregardless of what you have been told it does happen. I wouldn't let that stop me from having the surgery but if you are concerned I suggest you do some more research. I have never had an issue with it. I wish you the best of luck in making our decision.

Can't get any worse for me. I've had it for years. It does require me to already take Vitamins and get B12 shots due to slight malabsorption. So when I do get sleeved, maybe I'll be one of those that only go every couple of days.Lol

My surgeon said some people get it. I told him the only reason I was hesitant to choose sleeve over RNY, was I might would benefit long term having dumping syndrome... keep me away from sugar. He said, you may end up being one of the lucky ones to get it with the sleeve.

Honestly, sugar scares the crap out of me! LOL no pun intended but I am afraid of this happening and won't even go near the stuff. So It does keep me honest! :)

I am 5 months out and while I don't eat sugar all the time I have had bites of things here and there and salad with lite dressing and haven't had any issues.

If I get really sick and have dumping syndrome it would probably keep me straight. I got sick when I was pregnant on pizza and didn't eat it for years! I work with a guy that got the RNY, and he keeps getting dumping syndrome - even though he knows it is going to happen he keeps pushing it, one time was kool-aid! How much different is kool-aid with sugar and crystal light? To me, I have a similar item... I'm good. If I were going to push it knowing I was going to get sick, it would have to be something worth it... cheesecake? maybe! maybe not...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
