Time to eat

Recommended Posts

Hello my sleeve family,

I was wonder I am newly sleeved and I am having an issue with getting food in and Water each day. So I was wondering does anyone have like a schedule that they are on by time to tell them when to eat? I need to set up some kind of schedule because I am not eating like I should. I dont get up until 9am and I may have an egg for Breakfast and then I try to drink Water but I dont finish it for hours due to me working so i dont eat until 3pm and then I try to drink more but thats more time and I dont eat dinner til 9pm. So I really dont get the 4 to 6 meals in like they are saying. So, I need help!!!

It does sound like you need a schedule, even if it is just an alarm going off every 30 minutes to tell you to take a drink or two of something. Consider staying on a protien drink until you can be sure you are getting enough nutrition in.

Good luck!

For the first few weeks post-op, I set up a chart for myself to keep track of things until it became more of a habit. I kept track of when I'd taken pain meds, Vitamins, and ounces of Water.

It will get so much easier as the internal swelling goes down, but my advice would be to focus on the water at this point. You do NOT want to get dehydrated and have to go in for IV fluids. Can you set a timer to remind yourself to keep sipping? It's probably going to take some time to build up to several mini-"meals" a day.

Eating like you have been is not going to work and could possibly sabotage your weight loss. All the suggestions, timers, and journals in the world won't make a difference until you make this lifestyle change a priority.

Looks like you're about 3 weeks out. Protein Shakes should be large part of your life until you are on solid food. When I was three weeks out I'd have one first thing in the morning and as my snack two more times during the day.

Hydration: I don't know what kind of job you have but you need to be drinking a minimum of 64oz of fluids a day. That means you're carrying a bottle with you everywhere and working on it all day long. For me, I found Powerade Zero easier to drink than water so that's where I get a lot of mine.

I micro managed the crap out of my consumption. Sounds like time and access-ability are a big deal for you. Hard boil some eggs for a quick grab. Get some polly-o, dannon light and fit 2x Protein Greek style. They also make Water with electrolytes now which might be a good idea until you reach 64oz daily.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
