Hey there Chubbola!

Don't sweat the psych evaluation. I took mine Monday and it went really well. I'm sorry you have to wait so long for this appt. Hang in there. I've kinda drug this out too. I guess I wasn't in too big a hurry because my Dr. says no surgery until 2 months smoke free. So that would be around the middle of Februry.

Hopefully he will call next week once the psych eval gets to his office and we can talk surgery date!

Good Luck! and Congrats on the smoke free status!

Here are some smoking facts I found on the internet:

20 mins your blood pressure, pulse rate and temperature of your hands and feet return to normal.

8 hrs Your blood oxygen level will have increased to normal and carbon monoxide levels will have dropped to normal

24 hrs Risk of heart attack has decreased 50%

48 hrs Damaged nerve endings have started to regrow and sense of smell and taste return to normal

72 hrs entire body will test 100% nicotine free 90% of all nocotine metabolites will have passed from your body. Chemical withdrawl have peaked. Bronchial tubes begin to relax, breath easier

10 days-2 wks Brain and body have physically adjusted to functioning without nicotine.

3 wks-3 mos Circulation has improved walking has become easier chronic cough has disappeared Lung function has increased 30%

1-9mos cilia have regrown in lungs body's overall energy has increased

1 yr excess risk of coronary heart disease has dropped to less than half that of a smoker

5-15 yrs Your risk of stroke has declined to that of a non-smoker

10 yrs risk of death from lung cancer has declined by almost half

15 yrs Risk of coronary heart disease is of that of a person who has never smoked risk of lung cancer is decreased 90% Your overall risk of death has returned to near that of a person who has never smoked.

sorry this is so long. I look at this list every day....been smoke free for 28 days!

:rose: :):(:) :) :)

thanks for the awesome smoking statistics---it's so weird how i just don't need to smoke! i love the cilia comment-my anatomy and physiology instructor used to yell at me as i was heading out the door to smoke that i was 'paralyzing my cilia' lol! it was the laugh for the day most days----haha! guess who's laughing now! i guess it's so much easier to deal with my nursing instructors who used to nag me daily about smoking! it's awesome!

i'm calling them tomorrow re: my psych eval and am hoping to sweeten her up and having her put me on a cancellation list-maybe i'll get in sooner! i'm getting impatient---even though i know it's worth the wait, it would still be better if it was sooner!

thanks for all the support!

Ahhh...you remind me of myself just a year ago. I think my first appointment was about that same time last year! It is an exciting process and you seem like you're really motivated! Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
