Hi everyone i'm Tanya

I have not had the surgery as of yet, I am currently waiting for my surgery date. And I find myself in a internal battle one day I am dead set on getting the sleeve, than i'll read an article or a post about it and I sway to the band than i'll hear something regarding that. I have had several talks with my surgeon about this but he tells me to weigh everything and do what I think is best. Which by the way isn't at all helpful.

I went to my first support group tonight and it scared the hell out of me, I am not at all worried or nervous about the actual surgery. I am however incredibly anxious and nervous about the GI tube and Drain, weird I know but I figure once they take 3/4 of my stomach I have no choice but to deal with it.

So if anyone has any suggestions, thoughts, opinions etc i'd greatly appreciate it.

Tanya

Hi Tanya! Welcome!

I probably can't help much.. But will say..

Ive been here a while and have only read horrible things about the band..

I had the sleeve surgery 6 days ago and am ready to go back to work. And I'm a hair dresser..

It was a piece of cake!---well, not as good as cake would be right now, but you get the picture.

My doc doesn't use drains.. I had sugery on Tuesday, was home wednesday.. And only took pain meds to sleep.

I shopped today, cooked my fiancé supper, and cleaned house! I've lost 15 lbs so far... And soo happy with my decision!

Do the sleeve!!!!!!!

I have not had surgery yet, but I have read anything I could find talked to my doctor, and I'm going with the sleeve. I don't want to deal with the maintenance of the band, or possibility of it slipping; or malabsorsion of the bypass.

Hi Tanya, I had the sleeve almost 5 weeks ago and am happy I did it. I was really worried about it being irreversible, but it is fine. My surgeon said he will not even do the band any more because he said it doesn't work. Also, I didn't have a drain or anything like that. in one day and out the next morning and back at work by day 5. Really didn't have much pain except for the gas pain for a few days, but once that was gone, I felt completely normal.....like I had never had surgery. Good luck in making your decision and on your journey! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
