Easy food for travel

Recommended Posts

We are traveling to Jamaica next week, and I am trying to think of easy things that we can pack in our luggage for meals when we are in transit or at the resort and don't want to spend an arm and a leg at the restaurants.

I was thinking some Quest bars, some Protein shake packets. Anything else? What travels well?

We are staying on a resort for a work trip and there is no way to get off of the resort for a grocery store. It is all inclusive, so I guess room service could help, but I am not sure. There are some planned meals/dinners and Breakfast is served everyday.

You didn't mention how far out you are, but at almost 4 months out, I carry beef Jerky, mixed nuts, Oh Yeah Bars, and Protein powder. If it is all inclusive, all food at restaurant should be included as well as drinks. Most resorts have a commissary as well, where you can buy snack foods like dried fruit, yogurt, etc.

What resort are you staying at? I've stayed at several, I might be able to give you insight on the availability.

You could also take some Protein chips. I order mine from www.mybariatricpantry.com and they are pretty good!

Jif to-go cups. They have 2 tbl of Peanut Butter, low sugar, and 6 g of Protein. PB2 peanut butter powder is easy to carry and you just mix with Water to reconstitute. Non-refrigerated silken tofu is shelf stable. Have a wonderful vacation :)

Also - email and ask to speak to your concierge and let them know you have a food based allergy and give them a list of things that will accommodate your diet. BINGO...sorry i don't fib much but people pay attention when you say "allergy" vs. "I choose", and this is vaycay after all - they are there to serve and accommodate you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
