Thinning Hair and Hair Extensions?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone has gotten hair extensions for their thinning hair. My hair is so thin 6 months out, I have had a lifetime struggle with anemia and my hair was thin before but their was lots of it. Post surgery its soooo thin that I am considering hair extensions for body and length. Has anyone done this with success or does it further damage your hair, I have to do something. I tried Protein Shampoo and a very expensive bottle of leave in Moroccan oil (did I mention its frizzy on the ends-sounds so attractive I know) good lord I wanted my body to be thin not my hair too

I had my hair cut short abotu 2-3 months after surgery. It is now thicker than pre-surgery but keeping it short. I went to sports clips - no kidding. I fiured who else but a men's stylist to know what to do with thinning hair! HAHA!

(no offense, guys!)

I have already bought a couple wigs. But I am an extreme case. (and haven't even had the surgery yet) I lost a lot of my hair due to PCOS in my mid twenties. It stayed fairly consistent for several years. Then I got pregnant. During the pregnancy was awesome, a return of my thick hair. But after my daughter was born, when my hormones settled, it fell out with a vengeance. I was thinner than I had been previously. At that time I started using Toppik hair fibers. They actually worked for me and bought me more time. This year after another DVT/PE I was put on Coumadin for life. The rat poison...I mean blood thinner... has further thinned my hair. ( and my dose was just upped) At this time the Toppik is barely able to camouflage the baldness. Without anything in my hair I seriously look like someone receiving chemotherapy. So...anticipating the "great post op shed" I decided to start trying wig looks now. I haven't taken "the plunge" to wear them yet, but the day is rapidly approaching.

permanent extensions do damage your hair. I wear clip in extensions (real remy hair/ color matched) that my stylist recommended. They are pretty easy to put in and super low maintenance. you can even have them cut or colored to match your hair. I always wear them to my stylist and she trims them too.

She trims them too? Do they grow? ....just kidding ;-)

Extensions are nasty! Just go to Sally's and get the clip in ones. Have your hair stylist cut and show you how to style them. The problem with extension are that they don't go on top of your head so your hair will still look thin on top. Cutting your hair will help the most. They also make stuff like eye shadow that you apply to your scap and it will help camouflage your scalp.

The clip in ones I feel like would be obvious. But I guess I never really notice other ppls clip in extensions....except for when older ladies use the fake hair for a ponytail..those you can spot across the room.

On another thread just a couple days ago a girl mentioned Halo hair extensions. To me those look like the way to go. I watched a lot of videos of people putting them on and since you dont clip them in or need to secure them they dont damage your hair. Google them.

I have extensions I can Wear them or not. They clip in super easy and look great. I got mine at Sally beauty supply store for 100.00 bucks and worth every penny. I have the 20" so it makes my hair very long.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
