New to gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

It has been 7 weeks since my Vertical Sleeve Surgery. Before Surgery, I lost 20lbs. The day of the surgery I weighed 309.5, today I weigh 286. So 23lbs. Since surgery. I exercise almost every day and I have followed the diet plan almost to a tee. I am a bit frustrated because I feel it should be more weight than 23 lbs. what can I do to lose more? Is there something I am doing wrong? I have stayed at 286 for at least 3 weeks now.

I'm 6 weeks today. I'm on my second stall and have lost about 32 pounds. Par for the course I'm afraid. I'm doing everything I am supposed to. Patience is all. Basic math. It will happen.

That is more than 3 lbs a week, that is not bad at all. Some just lose a lot faster than others so dont compare yourself you will only get frustrated believe me. Plus you have to add in what you have already lost and how long that took to see the big picture. My advice though is to try and stay under 30 grams of carbs and eat healthy solid Proteins. I have only lost 50lbs in 6 months,30 more to go. I did have less to lose than others might have, but I know still that I am a slower loser, but that is okay less saggy skin and I really think you will have an easier time keeping it off in the long run. Don't get discouraged though, you are doing great! Hang in there and in a year from know think where you will be :)

You're right on track. I'm about 10 months out and have only lost 55ish pounds and still follow my diet religiously. You'll get there. Patience is key.

I am 4.5 weeks out and have lost 19 lbs. I lost 20 preop. I feel great but wish it would happen faster. But I can already tell a huge difference......it's just slow enough to feel like forever but it actually happens really fast.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
