Hello all i am 3 wks Post op. I have lost 36 pounds so far. I m jst a little annoyed because i feel my normalcy has been stripped away due to surgery :( I loved food before..hence the reason i was 346 Pre surgery. But i feel like i m not allowed to love food anylonger n it frustrates me. You dont realize the little things you take for granted before surgery like gulping cold Water when thirsty...ughh i have to NOW sip. I dont want to cook in the kitchen anymore n experiment with receipes because i cant eat n enjoy it. Did anyone else have these feelings in the beginning?? Sometimes i ask myself...Why did i do this?! Please help with this struggle

Yes Yes Yes! I felt exactly like you did and I'm pretty sure most people do. I am now 9 weeks post-op and instead of being a major thing, it is now a minor frustration (once or twice a week). The one thing that I promised to do for myself is buy GOOD food despite how little I eat. When I go to a restaurant and I see a main course dish I like I order it, despite only being able to eat a 10th of it, because I don't want to deny or punish myself. I hope that helps. It will definitely get easier in the next couple of months!

Yes, you are not alone. I have been eating smaller meals and most of the time I'm full before I even get to enjoy the food. I take a few small bites 3 is my limit, and if I take 4 it seems to give me a bad case of acid reflux. A nasty thing to go through. Everyday is a constant struggle on what should I eat today, constantly watching the scale. Getting frustrated very easy over minor things when it comes to eating food. I'm happy that my food bill has went down by several hundred dollars. NO MORE FAST FOOD diets,or excuses. I'm not sure what or which emotion I should be having now that I have the sleeve. The positives out weigh any negative feelings I had. I used to think someone had to be really messed up mentally if they had to have surgery to loose weight. No w I realize that no matter what I know have control over the biggest problem I had,my appetite. No longer am I the guy that will eat your left overs or ask for an extra piece of this or that. I feel good about the surgery but I know if I was to continue on that old path I would have been eating myself into a hospital bed.

It WILL get easier! I am only 4 weeks out and am able to gulp 4-5 oz of Water and I eat whatever soft foods I want, I just can't eat a lot of it. You'll see! You did this for all the right reasons. You'll get past the hard part and will be fine. You'll get thin AND be happy that you did it, just give it time! Congrats on the weight loss, I've not lost as much as you! Be grateful :)

I am also 4 weeks post op and last week was a hard week, was feeling very low and upset for the same reasons, but we must mourn our love for food if we want to be fit and healthy. I keep repeating the same sentence in my head 'I eat to live, not live to eat'. We loved our food for years the food mourning process will take time. Stay strong.

Really people? Get a grip. It's just food. It's meant to fuel your body so that you don't die. It's not your friend, companion, or lover. Go out and live. Go for a walk. Go to the mall and try on new sizes. Go out with friends and watch as they shovel in HUGE, DISGUSTING amounts of food -- and feel good that you don't have to do that anymore. Heck, sometimes I just go to my own closet and try on my old clothes just to see how far I have come.

Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

I don't know about that... Sometimes we just have to say it straight, don't we?

And it does get easier... Sometimes too much easier, to be honest.

Part of our journey IS developing a different relationship with food. Remember that the sleeve is not magical -- you can "beat the sleeve" and regain any lost weight, so...

I prefer to think of it as "tough love."

What is the alternative for someone who has regrets about their sleeve surgery? Go back to the hospital and ask them to locate their discarded stomach, then beg the surgeon to sew it back in? Not gonna happen.

I will admit (and apologize for) being quite opinionated about this. For more than 40 years before my surgery, food was a weapon that I used to beat myself up. Sleeve surgery saved my life, and gave me a new relationship with food. I can now truly say I have to eat to live, not live to eat. That to me is a small miracle!

I am 6 mos out and have seen so many posts related to a similar theme. I am frustrated, they say, because I can only eat a tiny portion, or 'when will I be able to eat more'? I did this surgery and all it entails praying that I would only eat a tiny bit and I never want to go back to where I was. Cook healthy meals that you can participate in, but enjoy the fact that you eat so much less, don't let your old habits get into your head. Move forward and enjoy all the positives coming your way!!

Honestly, I LOVE food and LOVE to cook. I have always enjoyed the challenge of taking unhealthy food and making it healthy...I have done Atkins diets soo many times and come up with great recipes so this is not much different accept.we have to watch the fat content..challenge accepted...Today I made cloud bread and crock pot meatballs...yum!

You can say it straight without being rude.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
