last appointment! now what?

Recommended Posts

I just finished my last appointment for the sleeve. My doctors office keeps Me in the dark regarding the progress and process of this journey. I have to call them and ask if I have to do anything else. Do I have to ask my Pcp for the clearance letter or do they do that on their own? When will they submit my papers? I'm trying hard not to be a jerk to them but they really don't answer my questions ..or the phone! How long after your last appointment was your papers submitted?

You have to let them know that your interested in every aspect of the surgery process. No, you will not come off sounding like a jerk just by asking questions about the process of handling your health, your supposed to ask questions, lots of questions. The bariatric center where I go gave me a very informative binder with a checklist in it. Maybe you should write down all the questions that you have and if they don't answer the phone then make a trip to their office. Congratulations in being even closer to having this procedure done!

After I got clearance from the lung specialist, they submitted it right away. I got approval in less than a week of submission. My clinic too gave me a manual that listed every step in the pre op & post op process. And they advised my to call if I still had questions or just needed to talk. You should be able to ask as many questions as you need.

Good luck to you!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
