Are my expectations too high?

Recommended Posts

I had an appt with a very highly regarded bariatric surgeon on August 12. I informed him that I definitely want to have the surgery and met with the lady who does the scheduling. She was supposed to let me know about pre op endoscopy and stress test. I haven't heard a peep from her. I've left two messages for her, but still nothing. Does this sound normal? I really want this surgeon, but might have to look elsewhere. What was your experience like? Thanks!

No there not, I had the same thing happen to me and I switched surgeons, since switching sergeons I have had my EKG , seen the Nut, I see the psy or my eval in two weeks, and all of my blood work will be done. I would switch doctors, if your treated this way now imagine these are the same people in charge of your care.

My husband said the same thing! Sounds like you've really got things rolling now. Do you have a surgery date?

Who was the surgeon and where are you located?

I'm in the Dallas area and the surgeon is James Davidson. I am so disappointed!

Not yet I will get that date at the 4 month stage which I'll be in November . Keep us posted we are there for you. And by the way everything you have done will transfer to your new doctor if you decide to changed.

I met with Dr. Davidson and Kim and switched to Dr. Barker and his group- Dr. Hodges did my surgery. They set every date (except surgery) on my initial consult. It was an easy and painless process. I'm almost 10 months out down 102lbs. Their post-op care is great and you can choose which office is more convenient for you- Southlake or Dallas.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
