My surgery is this Wens. and I've been on a liquid diet for a week now. I know I have to do this but I'm starting to have doubts. I really really miss eating! It's probably just nerves but I hate second guessing myself. :(

You will be fine. After surgery, and once you are back on regular food, you will be happily eating; but if like me, you will have to remind yourself to eat because you won't be hungry all the time any more.

There are absolutely times when I miss eating, especially at first. When I couldn't eat more than 4 (veggie) chicken nuggets, or just a couple bites of anything. Boy do I miss those days :P

It gets easier. Now I see people eating half a pizza or something and get a little nauseas just thinking "I used to eat like that?!"

And a liquid diet will make anyone miss food!

You'll be fine :)

Not being hungry might make it easier. Right now I AM hungry and it's so hard when hubby warms his dinner. The smell of food makes me want it but I want to be thin even more so I have not cheated once!

Thanks for the encouragement ladies! :)

The 3rd-4th week I was pretty unhappy....I wanted food......but the fifth week I was eating food......and a happy camper....but it is hard at the early stages, because it's just difficult to eat much as your stomach is still swollen and recovering..not being hungry is a nice change.....

That's so sweet...nice to have a supportive partner.....before the liquid diet, I froze some meals and told hubby he's on his own while I was on liquids

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
