Recommended Posts

Hey all..

I have been morbidly obese for many years of my life and out of all those years, i never had gotten diabetis. Well...guess its my lucky day! 4 days till surgery and doctor does bloodwork just before i leave to go to TJ and BAM !!! Diabetic!!! My fasting sugars are around 12.0 which i find odd because i have been doing low carb and no sugar and low fat!!! So im just wondering how this affects going for surgery??

I am type II diabetic.

I was amazed to see how quickly my blood glucose evened out, even before I really lost any weight. Now, it's almost always 100 on the dot...I was shocked at how much the surgery helped my diabetes.

You are so very lucky. I have had diabetes for 20 yrs and on insulin for 2 yrs at time of surgery. Mine did not go away just improved. Do not take as much insulin as I did before. But you just being diagnosed, Will more than likely be diabetic free very soon after surgery. Good thing you had all your ducks in a row for the surgery before you got diabetes. Best of luck to you and also very happy for you.

I am a diabetic since the age of 17 and was told prior I was only few years away from complications. Mine were not perfect prior to pre opt diet but once pre opt started it did. I am entering my 9 the week out and wow went from 6 shots a day to 2-3 one is as needed. Only regret should have done this sooner.

Any people with type 2 diabites had surgery?

Heather

I saw the title above you posted

i said to myself, "are you kidding me?" :o

soooooo many people here unfortunately are diabetic (me, me  )

many, many, many people's diabetes improves post diabetes - less insulin, meds

but............in my case and many many other sleevers - diabetes is just a horrible "memory"

I no longer take medicine for diabetes

my high blood pressure is now extinct

i've had epilepsy since i was 16 (don't tell anyone, but that was 43 years ago, :o our secret ok ;) )

maybe an NSV too, since i feel better about myself - i realize theres no reason to be ashamed of an illness i couldn't controll getting

I'm almost always controlled with my meds :)(many people aren't controlled, so i'm lucky)

as i was losing weight, my doc reduced my dosage of meds - then by the time i was 105 lbs down - my meds are now cut in half from what i used to take :)

that is an unexpected WONDERFUL NSV :)

its like a baby wouldn't take the same dose as an adult..........or someone who weighs 130 lbs, will take less meds than someone who weighs 235 lbs

its like a baby wouldn't take the same dose as an adult..........or someone who weighs 130 lbs, will take less meds than someone who weighs 235 lbs

oh dear, i'm talking about myself not you

repeating, your diabetes should/will drastically improve - if not disappear :)

your on your way to enjoy a healthier, happier, longer life!!!!

enjoy

good luck with WLS

speedy recovery

kathy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
