I was originally to have surgery at banner gateway but had to reschedule @ scottsdale. Was to have clear diet, then full liquid, pureed, soft... But @scottsdale, at week one they want you eating soft and you can start veggies and fruit and 80 grams Protein. Tried that yesterday and my bladder has rebelled. Could hardly per today. I think it's too much too fast. I drank Water with lemon today. Took a couple of cranberry capsules and went back to broth. I gained 4 lbs! Obviously it is water weight but Suresh!

Bodies are strange ain't they? All will be well. Pee-ing is important so drink like crazy (and don't weigh every day!)

I try not to disagree with people's surgeons, but I have to here.

Immediately after surgery your only concern should be hydration. Protein is nice, but not getting Protein won't land you in the hospital with dehydration. For God sakes, you are in Arizona. Once you are getting 60oz of fluids (Water, Powerade zero, or other very low or no calorie drinks) the add protein as you can tolerate it. Many people, like myself never experience any restriction on liquids & can get hydration & protein very quickly. Others however sometimes take over 2 weeks just to progress to the point of full hydration. You want to make this progression as quickly as you comfortably can, but do not push yourself to the point of discomfort.

^^^^ I agree!

I didn't hit my Protein goal until yesterday at 11 days post op. I made it my ONLY mission to hit my Water goal as quickly as possible. I did it 5 days post op. I refuse to get dehydrated! I walked out of the hospital with 12# of Water weight and lost it quite quickly. I hit 40oz the day after I was released and 44 the day after, than I hit 65-70-70-104-108 once I hit that 108oz and had been consistent I said "it's time for protein" my water intake dropped back to 75 the last two days with the Protein intake (I have taken in 60g from Protein shakes and 10-20 from food source daily since) but I'm still doing well and now I'm getting my protein in. Do your body good, get and stay hydrated. A couple weeks with a lack of protein isn't going to hurt you and stay off the scale, it doesn't like that lack of protein.

Gotta agree!! Focus on the hydration and getting a lot of liquids in and worry about food/protein later. Good luck!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
